Partner With Starky Foundation

In the month of February 2007, I had the pleasure of meeting a great
humanitarian William (Bill) Austin who is the president founder of
the Starkey Hearing Foundation who has been named as an honorary
Rotarian by the Rotary Clubs of my District 4170 in the Mexico City
Area. This well known entrepreneur is the majority owner of one of
the largest hearing aid factories in the world and he shared with me
his desire to help the needy in the world needing better hearing and
for that reason he established the Starkey Foundation.

Bill Austin has worked with various Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs,
Government & Private NGO's in many countries that give help to the
disadvantaged. Bill himself accompanies the volunteers that come
together in these missions brought together by the Starkey Foundation
that he founded some years ago to do this good work. In Mexico on
many occasions his contact with the governmental agency called DIF
(the one that takes care of the disadvantaged) helps with his
missions by helping to pay part of the expenses involved to carry out
these humanitarian missions.

Frederick S. Rondeau is his representative who helps coordinate these
humanitarian missions of the Starkey Foundation and has agreed to
inform of those locations where these humanitarian missions will be
held where Rotary Clubs might participate to help promote the work
that they are doing in different parts of the world. Frederick is
the person with which Rotary Districts and Clubs can contact directly
to receive more information.

The most important news is that after talking extensively with Bill
Austin I made him see that the Starkey Foundation could benefit with
added help plus the promotion of his good work worldwide in the
almost 170 countries where over 33 thousand Rotary Clubs are
located. I feel that Rotary Clubs in developing countries with
their contacts can help government and private groups helping the
disadvantaged come together to help find those that are hard of
hearing and also help by paying whatever added costs might be
involved. I find it most attractive to help these persons needing
hearing aids to have one at a cost of about 50 dollars per aid (
remembering that these aids in the USA and other countries cost a
minimum of 400 dollars per unit).

This is a great opportunity for Rotary Club to help offer hearing
aids to the many needing them and can not afford to pay 400 dollars,
etc. To get this humanitarian program started in any developing
country let me recommend that you contact Frederick S. Rondeau who is
also a Rotarian from San Salvador, El Salvador in Central America
whom I am also copying or you might click on to
